Colouring Aluminium Weekend Workshop
Colouring Aluminium Weekend Workshop
Weekend jewellery skills class with Simone Nolden. This workshop will introduce you to the basics of making and creating colourful anodised aluminium jewellery; everyone is welcome.
Aluminium is a lightweight and durable metal, making it ideal for jewellery making. By using pre-anodised aluminium it is possible to colour the surface using immersion dyes, direct application with inks, alcohol- based felt tip pens and many other printmaking techniques. The porous anodic coating absorbs the dyes or inks and is then sealed to make the colour permanent.
In the first half of the workshop you will be guided step-by-step through the techniques of handling, adding colour, patterns and designs. We will work on creating a range of samples of which you can later select your favourites to make some jewellery pieces.
After a break you will then have the option to continue with the colouring process, or spend time in the workshop creating jewellery from your finished designs.
Materials will be supplied for the suggested project tasks. If you would like to make more or larger pieces then you can purchase extra materials on the day from the studio.
Topics covered:
introducing tools and equipment needed, what alternatives are suitable
preparing and handling the metal
colouring techniques
adding texture, form and shape
making your pieces into finished jewellery
refinement methods
finishing techniques
Suitable for beginners with little or no experience of any jewellery making.
