Intermediate Stone Setting
Intermediate Stone Setting
Two-day intermediate jewellery skills class with Jacqueline Bell. The class will run from 10am to 5pm both days; suitable for those with some experience.
Some experience of jewellery making is required for this workshop. We will focus on constructing mounts and setting stones rather than making jewellery. Materials for making settings and cubic zirconia stones are supplied.
Makers can bring along their own work such as ring shanks , unfinished pendants, and earrings if you would like to learn the best way to incorporate stones into the design. This will also allow you to focus on the construction of the setting and attaching the stone.
If you would like to make a ring or other piece during the weekend you will be able to purchase materials from the studio.
We will use various shapes of stones to construct bezel settings, such as square, oval and round. We will also look at how to create different effects when setting a stone into a bezel.
Other techniques such as making collets (cone shaped settings) flush setting, tabs and settings for irregular shaped stones or found objects can be incorporated into the weekend, dependent on the needs of students.
Please contact Jacqueline Bell in advance of the class if you would like to use your own stones or have any specific requests.
