This is a fascinating process which has been used for millennia to produce large and small metal jewellery and components. You will heat silver in a crucible (small ceramic dish) until it becomes liquid, and pour it into a void created between two layers of sand.

A great way to recycle scrap silver and make something new and beautiful.

You will learn how to create a mould in sand using found objects such as buttons or twigs as models, then how to melt and pour scrap silver to make a cast copy of the original model. There is also the option to carve a ring or other object in jewellers wax, and then cast it.

Various methods of finishing, polishing and texturing will be used to finish the pieces depending on the choice of design.

15grams of silver will be provided for the project, extra silver can be purchased if required.

The class runs 10am - 5pm with a break for lunch.
