Flush setting is the technique whereby a facet bet stone is set into a piece of jewellery so that the table of the stone is even with the surface of the metal.
In this one-day workshop you will learn how to drill, open up and prepare metal to set round brilliant-cut stones into sheet metal. You will practice in copper first setting different size stones and once confident move on to work in silver. With guidance of tutor Simone, you will then design and make a small silver pendant featuring flush-set stones.
There will also be a chance to make your own flush setting tool.
Techniques covered:
drilling and burring a recess for the stones to sit in
pushing the metal around the stone to hold it in place permanently
making a flush setting tool
All the materials including stones and silver will be provided at cost price. However, if you want to bring some of your own stones you can and the tutor will advise as to whether these are suitable for use in this class.
This workshop will run on Saturday 25th January 2020, from 10am to 5pm, at Jackie’s workshop in Coburg House.
